pool deck design
Large, irregular pieces of bluestone were fit together like a giant puzzle to create a "usable" patio around the pool. We worked around the existing pool coping.
Clients asked me to re-design the space and plantings around an existing swimming pool. Make it our private Eden.
Swimming pool before...
The problem - an awkward, irregular-shaped pool in a great spot, but so uninviting. "Get rid of the boulders" said the client.
pool patio completed
Perennial and ornamental grass plugs were installed in spring 2011. Plantings bulked up quickly by fall.
pool deck outfitted
The client purchased outdoor furniture from Restoration Hardware. Low Zen bowls are planted with Sempervivum 'Saturn' (hens-and-chicks) and Festuca glauca 'Elijah Blue' (blue fescue).
Fall perennial & grass splendor
Swimming might be over–but the pool garden is still a destination. Miscanthus sinensis 'Variegata' in combo with the yellow autumnal hue of Amsonia hubrictii (thread leaf bluestar).
sunlit fall grasses
Flowering stems of Miscanthus 'Purpurascens' are stunning when backlit by the setting western sun over the Catskill mountain range.
